My kid's ear could beat up your kid's ear....
Today we finally took K to the doc. I know it seems like we waited FOREVER to take her to the doctor but we had been assured that this bug that is going around lasts a loooooooonnnnnnnnng ass time.
Well today was the day that her doctor said ENOUGH. Little K Kaos can't be sick anymore, let's take a look and a listen.
I was relieved. What with the 6 days of off and on fevers... and the coughing... and the body aches... and the tired... and the whining... and the sniffles... and the tummy ache.
All manners of ill had befallen my little one, but still there was one that we didn't see coming.
The exam was going as expected, they weighed her and took her temperature which of course was normal because she was AT the doctor's office. She stopped sniffling because she was at the doctor's office. She stopped coughing because she was at the doctor's office. But her doctor took a look and a listen. She peeked inside her ear and said "So K is this ear bothering you?" K shook her head. Doctor P, that's what we'll call her, looked at me for a moment with a touch of concern then moved on the K's other ear. Then she went back and looked in the first ear and looked at me again. "Has she been tugging on it or touching it? Anything?"
I told her no, not at all.
"Wow K, you're one tough kid..."
K looked so proud... and then that pride swelled into a HUGE coughing fit and Doctor P asked "Is that how she's been coughing?" I said that yes it was, and that she gets stuck coughing that way and can't catch her breath.
As K put her boots back on Doctor P told me that K has, for the most part, what she's seen going around, that this is the worst winter she's seen as far as illness goes so we shouldn't worry or feel bad and that K's got one hell of an ear infection and it needs to be treated. Only I think maybe she didn't use the word hell...
Apparently K should be feeling some pain there. Apparently she should be crying and whining and tugging that ear while she sucks her thumb... but not my kid no...
My kid's ear could kick your kid's ear's ass.... cause she's tough...
Until you make her take yucky medicine... then she's just a puddle of crying goo hoping she'll get a powdered donut out of the deal...

What about me? Oh, what about me? I feel like shit. My fever is down but not gone. The thing that pisses me off the most?
Well aside from the fact that I read these posts too so I know how obnoxious the SICK posts are...
I was doing SO WELL on my Fit February work outs but I've now done nothing NOTHING more active than carrying K around the pharmacy while waiting for her prescription to be filled and that just about did me in...
The next post? Won't be about being sick. Maybe it will be about naming a penis or... Mr. Kaos' new computer... or about the fact that I'm going to be on Mr. Fab's show again this weekend....
Yeah, maybe one of those things. Or how much I love booze.

what's in my bathroom?
We've had kind of a busy week, what with K graduating, bubblewench being in town and Mr. Kaos being on vacation, but we managed to sneak in some bathroom work. Just a little. Kaptain Kaos did the last of the demo, the heavy stuff that required sawing through pipes. I don't trust myself with a power saw.
With everything stripped out we excitedly prepared to put the insulation in the walls but thought first we would do a 2nd test fit of that shower surround we purchased at Grandmother's House of All Things Home Improvement Related. We test fit it the day we brought it home and we were good to go... well guess what?
No really guess.
Yeah, so it turns out that we fitted it before Kaptain Kaos replaced the window.
The window.
Doh!
Umm yeah, so... It fit on the back wall of the tub. It fit to the left wall of the tub. It didn't fit on the right wall. The wall where the lovely new window is. It didn't fit. It was always going to be a tight squeeze but now? NO.
No shower surround for you.
So what does that mean for all of you? Nothing really unless you commonly use my bathroom. Or unless you were anxiously awaiting pictures of the finished remodel. Or unless you were really vested in my kitchen getting ripped out. Soon.
If any of those apply to you it means you'll have to wait a bit longer because...
We're going back to plan A. The one where we tile the tub surround. Or should I say "I" tile it.
That's okay. Good actually. I was beginning to question the logic of the 3 piece shower surround because we are putting so much hard work into the bathroom and I want it to be REALLLLLLLY nice.
NICE.
So yeah. More work. More Cami hours. We'll have to install that special dry wall. I thought I had to use a vapor barrier and cement backer board but then I learned that there is special drywall just for this. One step. Instead of 2. I'm still going to talk to the people at Grandmother's House of All Things Home Improvement Related to see which of those two methods is more sound.
Any of you know? anyone? anyone?

bacon & bathrooms...
I learned something very important in the last week. Bacon wins people. Bacon always wins and so K is a full fledged meat eater again. I thought you would all want to know. She thought you would all want to know. She asked me to tell you all that if eating bacon is wrong she don't wanna be right.
In bathroom news, it will be more than 4 days til we have our bathroom back (so dream, if you want to update your entry you can, but since you are the only one that threw out a guess you are currently in the lead).
Ever the clever man, Mr. Kaos decided to agree with me when I said we needed to rip out the sink and replace the floor while we're at it. He was hesitant at first but soon saw the wisdom of my ways. You know the wisdom of only having one working bathroom for who knows how long and having to go up a flight of stairs to use it. Wise.
Since that's really all I have for you today as other tasks are mounting up against me (woo!) I leave you with a little video bonus.

what can i say... it's an update...
Today I would like to cover updates on 3 former posts :
turning 30... day 1 of 40...
what's he building in there...
mirror mirror...
before I get into that I want to give you a little insight. I don't like quirky things. Quirky people yes... quirky things no. Today's post was almost cancelled out by one I would have called:
don't you f&%$#ng die on me you stupid motherf&*%ing laptop...
When I woke this morning I went to do what I do every morning... open up my lovely new laptop and check my mail while K attempts to drag herself out of bed (much like mommy she isn't a morning person). To my surprise when I opened it up the screen just sat there. blank. Blank. BLANK. it stayed that way. I poked at a few keys to wake it up. clicked the mouse button. Tapped the mouse pad thingy... nothing. hmmm.. not normal. not the way to start my Friday morning...
After rebooting twice the screen finally came back to life... so that is warning 1 for my computer... don't mess with me. you all read it... you heard the warning... it can't say I didn't warn it...
Onto our updates because I know all of you out there in Internet land are just chomping at the bit to hear what I have to say about things I have already said...
turning 30... day 1 of 40... I will be judging the joy and success of my birthday mostly on the happy day itself... it has been a rough 30 something days... I have been sick for at least 2 weeks of it having just wrapped up an amazingly awful flu/cold tag team that rendered me completely helpless... forcing me to cancel a night out complete with a babysitter for K, cancel the appointment for my coveted 30th birthday tattoo (and with our super busy schedule it will likely be April before I can make another appointment). When I wasn't sick, K and/ or Mike had the icky sicky to make up for it. Joy of joys no? I've learned not to say what I am looking forward to doing as it tends to jinx me and I get stuck at home miserable or tending to those in misery... but I am looking forward to some potential birthday fun... and to people not asking anymore if I am freaked out about turning 30...
what's he building in there... This blog covered two important subjects... 1) what the hell is my recluse neighbor doing with all those workmen... the answer? I have no clue. K suggested after listening to the tune one too many times that Tom Waits should ask his neighbor and I should ask mine... oh sweet simple child... I respect her right to be a recluse... because people scare me. It also looked at the lovely leak in the middle of my street... I haven't seen any signs of the water bureau in weeks. The paint markings on the street indicating pipes and leaks are fading... the leak is not... it slowly grows more persistent and we have several mucky pools in front of our house at all times... I only hope they get the problem fixed before the weather gets nicer, the mosquitoes come out and I have to start yelling at some one out of fear that someone I know could contract West Nile virus...
mirror mirror... finally the mommy panic blog of Wednesday... things here are looking good folks. What has become of my little spawn? Has her head started revolving? no... does she stand in front of the mirror croaking "red rum red rum"? Well... yes but only because Mike asked her to. She is fine. I am fine. The world is pretty fine. Yesterday I had a chance to talk at length with her teacher. I told her what's been going on and my concerns and she stared blankly at me for a few moments... asked a couple of questions and told me the only remarkable part of the whole writing the letter backwards is that K is writing that much by herself with no prompting... Basically, lots of kids write backwards at this age... but K's ahead of the curve for writing so much so well... She has not noticed any signs at all that K has a problem. she thinks my little one is doing quite well, but like a good teacher, Mrs J says she'll keep her eyes on it just in case. The bottom line though? K's smart.
On that happy note I will bid all of you out there in Internet land fair well. We have a busy weekend ahead of us... K and I will no doubt find something interesting to do while Mike heads off to lay down some funky tracks with his new band mates... or however I would say that without sounding like a dork...
