body heat

I sit in the office loft of our house typing on our big reliable laptop. The one we affectionately call the "Tank". I know it must be warm in here because the air conditioning is running still at almost 10 pm. It was hot all day. So hot that K didn't want to play outside anymore.

She wanted to escape into the air conditioned coolness and draw picture after picture in the dark house while we waited for Dr. Normal to get home with Chinese take out.

We had Chinese take out because it was also too hot to cook.

I know all this, but I still sit upstairs in jeans and a sweater my body supported by the chair I sit in and the desk I lean on. I'm not cold, even without the sweater when I had on a tank top I wasn't cold... but I want to be warm.

I want to be submerged in warm bubbling water or to pull on leather gloves and a welcoming wool coat. I want to curl up under layers of blankets and feel the cool sheets warm to my skin.

The weather may have it's way with me during the day, but every night it's the same.

Once the sun goes down I long for the comfort of my big bed, my soft blankets and the warmth of my husband's skin.

about the weather...

Really Cami?

Really?

You're going to sit here and write a post about the weather?

I know, I know...

It seems ridiculous for me to sit here and talk to you about the weather, it does. I accept that. I own it. I admit it... it's just that...

Well the thing is...

The past couple of days it hasn't so much been that I didn't have anything to post about as much as it's that I've been preoccupied with a few things, among those things I've been obsessing over the fact that it's June, K is now officially on Summer Vacation and I have been wearing a coat everywhere I go... or at the very least a jacket.

Last night I took K to see a movie at 5:30 and I wore my wool coat. MY WOOL COAT. IN JUNE!!!

What is this Antarctica?

I went to the Farmers Market in the middle of the afternoon and had to wear a jacket... and long pants... and I was still cold.

I'm ready to officially declare this not-summer vacation. Anyone got some Hot Chocolate they want to share?

cold weather hints

I just thought I would make a few little notes for people. Important little pieces of information.

A little friendly advice from me to that lady I saw yesterday in shorts and flip flops with just a little hoodie jacket to keep her warm when it was only 35 degrees outside.

She wasn't homeless. At all. She was wearing some nice shorts and that hoodie was probably designer. Her purse had to be worth a pretty penny too.

So my hint for her, my little tip; Instead of whining on the phone to your friend about how cold you are PUT SOME REAL CLOTHES ON.

This tip is for the kids at my daughter's school, probably all the schools... and their parents: It is December. It is Winter. This is Oregon not Arizona. Maybe you aught to get your kids to wear PANTS or I don't know something that doesn't resemble summer clothes when there is actually ice on the ground.

And you over sexed 4th grader trying to dress like a Bratz doll; if you HAVE to wear a mini skirt and platform shoes to school do you think you could at least put on some tights so we don't have to see the odd color your skin turns in the cold?

Oh and here's a little hint for myself; Stop paying attention to people, at all. You're letting them drive you insane.

Friday's all good...

It's sunny outside.

SUNNY, and there is no rain in the forecast for today... NO RAIN. Not even a cloud, and yes yes yes I am blogging about the weather AGAIN but the fact remains that it is supposed to reach 75 degrees today. 75. that is warm that is wonderful for Portland this time of year.

There's also the big added bonus of K's school being closed today PLUS Mr. Kaos is working from home. He has an amazing work ethic and even now he sits in the dungeon office working away but the moment he's finished up I have no doubt we will be able to rip him out of the gloom that is the dark dark basement to bring him out into the light and get his help completing our very important list of things to do today:

Bouncy ball
Blowing bubbles
Hula Hooping
Sidewalk chalk art
a picnic
reading a book in the yard
grilling something
holding hands with Mr. Kaos in the sun
playing chase me with K in the grass

As you can see I have a ton of very important things to do, I'll try to get back to all of you sometime when the sun isn't shining quite as bright.

****update****

Phew... we're inside on a little break... the sun was starting to warm us more than we wanted so we came in for quiet time. I wonder if K knows it is quiet time? She's being unusually quiet so I won't mention it.

We've completed all but 2 of those tasks... The grilling has been cancelled in anticipation of a better dinner idea and the holding hands sunshine love will have to wait just a little longer because, well because...

I was beginning to think the day couldn't get any better.

But it could, oh yes, and it did. IT DID!

K's favorite babysitter has been out of town visiting family and she sent me a message to say that YES. SHE CAN BABYSIT. TONIGHT. tonight.

BETTER THAN THAT?

YES. When I asked what time she could come over she said IN THE AFTERNOON.

I am a mere 90 minutes away from hopping on my big pink bike and going for a bike ride with Mr. Kaos.

BETTER THAN THAT?

It could. It can. Dare I say it, it will. I am so getting a cheese plate from Curds and Whey on my way to wine tasting at Vino.

Oh thank you world for the BEAUTIFUL DAY.

Talk to you later internet people!

baby it's cold outside...

Are we there yet? Is it Spring yet? Could we maybe see some of that global warming everyone is talking about?

I'm cold. chilly. chilled. and not in the frigid ice queen kind of way. It's just cold out there. What's with the weather here (yes, I have stooped to the low lows of a weather blog... I know what's with me?).

Rain I can handle. Enthusiastically actually. I love the rain. I love the rain in a very deep and passionate way. Some may think my love of the rain is a little disturbing... in fact it could boil down to kink... but some of my best times in life have been in the rain. Maybe that's a big part of my love for Portland. Rain is good. It feeds life, green, love, lust, hope, those early spring flowers. I love the rain.

Snow I'm okay with. I accept it. truthfully I don't like it much but it does produce happy snow days. Tromping around the neighborhood with your family. Building snowmen (and women). Snowball fights. Hot Chocolate. Warm cozy fires. Snow can be pretty darn alright.

But this bizarre snow rain mix which I will henceforth refer to as snain.... I don't like snain. I am not a snain person. What makes the snain even worse is the direction it is coming in.... It's not falling from the sky. NOOOOO that would be too simple. It's coming in from the side. That's right it's snaining sideways.

I find myself wondering if given K's late night last night she will do me the courtesy of a nap when she gets home... or maybe, just let me take a nap while she does the bills and cleans the kitchen... probably not. She might be a fan of the snain.

So in the immortal words of that old guy that sits on the steps, "How bout this weather we're having?"
