blah

because I am so blah today I will not spare you the boredom of recounting my day... if you want to read the blah blog you will have to wade through it...

I woke up, as I do commonly, to the kicking poking rolling hand holding of K who at some point had climbed into our bed with her blankie and various stuffed animals, the sound of Mike in the shower, a cat laying on my legs and one milling about above my head trying to smother me or find a cool spot on the sheets... I am never sure... I opened one eye and squinted across the bed at the alarm clock confirming that I could sleep for another 15 minutes without making anyone late for work or school and told K that it wasn't time to wake up, her puppy alarm would bark when we needed to be awake... She jumped up in a flash and yelled something like "oh no I forgot her" and bolted into her room coming back moments later with the big eyed puppy that barks to wake her... she set it carefully on the bed and continued her kicking poking rolling hand holding attempts while I tried desperately to snooze for first ten then five then two minutes...

When we heard the melodic 'arf arf arf arf arf' and Mike turned off the shower I knew it was time to stumble out of bed and get the family out the door.

There was breakfast to make, lunch to pack and people to get dressed (K and I, Mike can dress himself these days).

Mike had done an excellent job getting his stuff ready and I don't think I had to do a damn thing for him this morning except tell him to drive safe and have a nice day before I kissed him and attempted to send him out the door... but K was in the bathroom naked trying to wash her hands and screaming at him not to leave.... so there was a bit of a delay.

I carefully put the school tuition, library books and DVDs, our check book, a pen and K's extra mittens and hat for a school project into a bag. With her dressed on only her 3rd try (fashion shows have nothing on our house) I got her coat on her, mine on me and we managed to get out that front door right on time... a miracle... light should have streamed down on us while a chorus of angels serenaded the everyday miracle... but something was amiss... It would take me a while to find out what it was...

On our way to school we happened upon a friend and walked to school together, we arrived just as the doors were being opened... more perfection... just as K was heading in the door I saw my neighbor hand her son his lunch box and I realized what the storm cloud would be... I left K's carefully made lunch at home. Her little butterfly shaped pita pickle and cheese sandwich sat at home lonely in her lunch box with it's juice and apples chilled by it's little pink ice pack...

CRAP

Luckily they really only eat snacks at school since they get out so early, and luckily K's teacher had some juice and snacks at school and told me I really didn't need to come all the way back with her lunch, and LUCKILY K didn't freak out when we suggested this alternative to her...

I filled out a field trip slip, wrote the field trip check, dropped off tuition, helped K with her morning paper and shuffled out the door to make my way to the neighborhood library. I had Mike's DVDs and my books to return and since they weren't open I was using the outside book drop. I am always very careful when doing this to check that everything goes in... so one at a time I put in the DVDs when those were safe in the bin I put in first one book and then the other... I started to walk away when I realized I hadn't checked to make sure the last book had fallen out of the book drop and into the bin inside... I tried to continue towards home but it nagged me until I turned around and walked the half block back to the library, pulled the handle and looked inside sure that I was being a fruit... or is it a nut... either way, I was sure I was one, but when I peered inside I saw the bright blue cover staring back at me still sitting there... it hadn't dropped down... I closed the bin... opened it up again and the damn book was still there... I poked at it a bit with my hand and then shut the door again and waited... When I opened it I knew that book would have dropped into the bin and out of sight but it hadn't it sat there blue and smug and mocking me. I reached in as far as i could and gave it a shove while kind of tilting the door up, it went in, my hand almost got stuck in the process but it went in!!!! I closed the bin door... checked once more just to be sure then set back on my way home...

I called Mike to let him know the books and movies were returned but spared him the insane book return details only to find that an hour after he had left the house he was still sitting in traffic... obviously my blahness was not an isolated event...

There is yet more startling blah to tell, like my blah breakfast and oh so blah shower, tripping over my cats and wanting to go back to bed but honestly i am starting to put myself to sleep with the monotonous clicking of my keyboard so we'll end this little tale here for today...

Blah.
