am I forgetting something?

in a polar shift from my morning yesterday, today is as smooth as silk.. really really I swear. K woke up a bit early but politely, I let her watch a show so I could sleep a little longer but I still woke up early and got her ready for school... she was so accommodating and well behaved that 40 minutes before we needed to leave she was ready to go top to bottom, all packed up, hair done, shoes on, all good... so I let her watch cartoons...

Meanwhile I made myself breakfast (I never get to eat before I drop her off) checked my e-mail (before 9am?? oh my) and shuffled around a bit unsure what to do...

When we left the house with everything we needed for school (I didn't forget a thing this time) it was raining hard, but the good umbrella was sitting by the door waiting for us... strange that things are where they belong today.

We talked and laughed all the way to school and when we arrived it was just as her friend the other K was arriving... so she and K and her mother and I all talked and laughed waiting for the doors to open which they promptly did.

Depositing the girls in the classroom, it was strange... K did all the things she needed to do quickly and happily before heading in to do her morning work and kissing me goodbye... had my moody daughter been replaced by a pod child????

I stood there for a while bewildered by the smoothness of the morning and sure I was missing or forgetting something, on tiny detail that would later prove to be monumental... it just doesn't go that easy in the morning for me... I noticed her friend's mother with the same look of bewilderment and we laughed, made sure we weren't forgetting anything and made our way out the door.

I called my mom on the way home (because I had the time ) and she told me about some fad where people have their loved ones cremated then turn the carbon from their ashes into a diamond to keep with them forever. Can you imagine taking your mom's ashes into the shower with you... in whatever form... hmm...

Surreal morning. Strange indeed.
