focus pocus

I don't know if any of you have caught on to this but in the past several months I have had a tremendous time with concentrating on anything... except my child, my bathroom, my husband and perhaps my cannons, it's hard for me to not notice those.

I've put some of my to do's and commitments on the back burner being unable to give myself to them at all. I have taken on other tasks that need undertaking and while they are busying my hands they are not busying my mind, my heart or my spirit.

Those things seem to be mired by stagnant water and bad humor. Like not funny humor... not a bad temperament.

(Jeez, I didn't know you all thought I was so melodramatic)

This lead me to thinking, to wondering, to reasoning and to something stupid. Something I don't have any time for at all yet I am going to try to dive into head first. NaNoWriMo.

No it isn't a disease... quite the opposite really I'm hoping it will be a cure of sorts for what's been ailing me.

NaNoWriMo is
National Novel Writing Month. That would be November. Which is next month. A mere 10 days away.

Big Deep Breath... I'm doing it.

I remember seeing it was going on last year... at the same time I started this here blog (that's right my blogaversary is coming soon). I remember thinking how inspirational that people would try to write an entire 50,000 word novel in a month, and how fucking crazy and borderline suicidal they must be.

Now I think "Oh, it'll be fun".

Anybody else? I know
Jo's doing it, her post reminded me of it. Who else is in?

Oh the silence... it is deafening.

I've been contemplating it for 3 years now. Excuse me while I think about it some more and do the math. I mean, how many pages a day are we talking here?

CamiKaos said...

Lisa: It came out to 1666.something words a day.

I know, what an ominous number.

But they stress that you don't need to edit, rather you aren't supposed to edit, just get the story down. In fact aside from a word count (which is done by computer) no one at NaNoWriMo even reads the content. It is up to you who you share it with. That's what pushed me over into doing it. I think I can pull off 50,000 unedited words in a month.

I'm not sure how many pages it translates to but I do know that it is more of a novella length than a full novel.

That is c.r.a.z.y.

Good luck! Can't wait to read it!

I'm out.

wow, interesting.
I am knee deep into my silly book with Celtic Rose, and we don't do well with deadlines, either of us. Plus, truthfully what we are writing is silly and not nobel prize quality at all!
Looking forward to seeing what you write, though. I KNOW you can do it.

I've got all scared now wondering what I'm going to write about, but it will be fine right??

Have fun, I'm sooo out! I can't even manage to get through the meme you tagged me for. I think my head would pop off from all the stress.

Lindy: Oh you don't have to do any meme I tagged you for... honestly I can't even recall which it was and I am so behind on memes... I am just kind of forgetting about them... except the few interviews I still STILL need to write.

Jo: Did you know they have NaNoWriMo mail on the site... I sent you one. I may waste my month of writing sending silly notes.

Mie: I hope so.

BW: If it is worth reading or not remains to be seen, the important part is that it is 50,000 words. Those 50,000 words could be "I can not write a 50,000 word novel" repeated 7143 times.

I'm still debating it. I started last year, and didn't keep with it. I have some ideas, I just...time time time. Stupid job.

You go girl!

What's the title, by the way? You have a title already, right? How many words in the title? See? You've made a dent already.

NaNoWriMo - sounds more like a mental disease that I would have or something. I feared for you for just a moment.

I couldn't write a Novel. I'd have to just write the thing, hire someone to clean it up for me (grammar, spelling errors and typos, etc).., so on that respect I guess I could write a novel! I'd just have to take out a loan that could support a small 3rd world country to afford such a brave editor / ghost writer.

I *so* wish I had the huevos.

I was very tempted last year. I'm less tempted this year for some reason, but have a feeling in my gut that i'll have a stab at it in 2008.

i started last year, i had a great idea for a story- but then discovered i actually needed to sleep between 3am & 6am...

Mmmmm.. yeah.... nooooo.
But I hope you can get to that goal, and still write me! :)

I AM!.....wishing you luck :)

Weird. I've been thinking about your cannons an awful lot lately, too. Hmm.

Good luck with the novel. Sending you tons of patience... I know I would need it!

Okay, you and Jo have inspired me. Sixteen hundred words a day? Pshaw! Bring it on, I say.

I wonder, would it work to serialize a novel into daily chapters and post them as blog posts? Or does one write the novel on the side and then whip off the cover for the great reveal at the end of November?

Hmmm. You've gots my brain thinkin', girl.

So.... like... do I have to write a whole novel? In one month?

CamiKaos said...

GF: One month. 50,000 words is the goal to get to say you finished. It's crazy.

Troy: Hooray! We've done it. We've got Troy over to the dark side... er, the write side. Since one from NaNoWriMo is actually reading your novel and you retain complete rights to it you can do whatever you want to with it. I am thinking about posting excerpts of it or making a little side page and posting as I write but I haven't decided yet. What do you think?

CamiKaos said...

Julie: Oh Julie, your patience is so appreciated. I will share some with Mr. Kaos, he is SCARED of the Cami who writes a novel in a month.

Mr Fab: Funny, I think I know someone who really should finish a book.

Sybil: I always have the words for you.

Angel: I am going to put some restrictions on myself... Like sleeping. I must sleep at least 6 hours every night.

Dan: I'll try to remember you said that...

Flutter: Seriously girl, if anyone should have the huevos it's you. You could rock this.

daveman: When they diagnose me with it you'll tell everyone what it means write?

bellevelma: It's on my NaNoWriMo page. Any one that joins should add me as a writing buddy. It is only one word and it is called "Fiction". Are you thinking of doing it?

thordora: I hope you do it, but yeah, that whole job thing.. sheesh... you would think they paid you or something ;)

I'm in there like swimwear, mama. It freaks me the eff out, too, that I might actually accomplish something. Eeek.
