CamiKaos goes to the PTA...

Last night I had my first foray into the realm of the secret society known as the PTA...

Shudder.

Landismom, I thought of you quite a bit as our own PTA president was talking.

Then when others started talking and they went on a little (or 6 decades) too long I started to wander off into Kaos land... Kaos land is a cranky place. I get kind of bitchy there. Bitchier.

And I will admit that maybe it was a bad idea to go to the meeting on an empty stomach.

It's possible that being hungry made me a little evil, and that maybe the PTA (secret society that it is) was not the best place for me to be when I am so.fucking.hungry.

But I had to get out the door. And my dishwasher wasn't working. My dishwasher that is less than 2 years old. So instead of eating I had been washing 2 days worth of dishes because I had been counting on the dishwasher to not.be.broken.

It's conceivable that the dish thing made me a little cranky too.

So when I was a little too smiley in a cranky ass bitch way, and when I made really snide remarks about the way they test our students, and when I laughed out loud at things that were not meant to be funny....

Well lets just say, I don't think CamiKaos made any friends last night...

Secretly, though, they all want to be you. So don't worry. Friends, especially ones in the PTA, are over-rated.

I would have been your friend because that would have been me too!

And I agree, friends are over-rated!

I am cringing now, worrying about my maiden voyage in PTA meeting land - up front, on the board. I think you would like our PTA - we make snide remarks all the time. I think we may be kicked out any time.

Sorry it sucked.

Better you than me! I skipped ours altogether. I meant to go, but the icky factor won out. Plus, my kid is in catholic school, so I am guessing it might be even worse. They don't need to know how satanic I am, so early in the game...

Girl...when will you ever learn to keep granola bars in your purse or coat pocket. It is moments like that where voraciously scarfing down a granola bar infront of strangers is acceptable. It keeps the crankies away.

meh, fuck 'em. I'm your friend:)

Flutter: Yeah, but will you come with me to the next meeting? They're going to talk about internet safety!

Corey: I had one, but it was full of peanut butter and I didn't want to eat it... I wanted a big ol sandwich and tater tots.

Sybil: Plus the kids at G's school are stupid.

MM: I like snide commenters. A lot.

Stella: Hello and welcome. I noticed a few of the pta parent's smiling at me this morning... so there may be a few other snarky cranky pants bitches at the school. And friends are overrated... but don't tell my friends that.

Mielikki: Everyone always wants to be me... right? right?

As important as I think involvement in stuff like this, I'm totally dreading it.

I wouldn't worry about it, every group needs at least one (and preferably a group of) snide-remark making inappropriate laughing person(s).

I'm not in the PTA, but I do support them by going to their fund raisers where I drink lots of alcohol and smile crazily. It seems to work ok.

I have to admit, I never been to a PTA meeting ever. I reluctantly went to Parent Teacher conferences - only to be sorely disappointed. I would show up and without fail, the teachers were seldom honest or helpful into gaining insight into my daughter's activities at school.

But they never hesitated to gripe when something did get out of hand - and THEN - tell me that daughter was not behaving well. at which point I would back them up and remind them they only had glowing remarks about her at the conferences - a MAJOR conflict of words.

I mean, if they had told me there was a problem when I asked, there wouldnt have been a problem later. I hated school when I went, I hated school when my daughter went. Mainly - I hate those asinine teachers. The school itself, is okay.

Anyways the teachers hated me when I put their lying mouths on the spot. But hey, honesty, like love, is supposed to hurt sometimes, right?

oh, my future speaks to me.

Ouch. I'm starting to think I'm the only mommyblogger with a positive PTA experience (although mine hasn't been universally positive). Please don't hold me accountable for the actions of other PTA presidents!

I'm glad you went, though. If only for one meeting. Everyone should go to one meeting.

Landismom: I actually liked our PTA president. She seemed to have her act together and I really appreciated that... It was the information I was hearing that had nothing to do with the PTA that sent me into a rage. And I will continue to go to the meetings at least every other month, if not every month, especially because I am doing PTA and School volunteering out my ass.

Thordora: Yes, sounds like it.

Daveman: Serious Cami here, I had a horrible experience in school. I hated school. Hated. It. I am hoping with a great deal of presence on my part and my total willingness to sass talk anyone who won't be frank I will be able to make K's way in school a little smoother.

Jo: Funny you should mention the drink, I'm going to try to get a few of my fellow pta ladies to join me for cocktails at my favorite bar after the next meeting... Maybe it will be fun!

Holmes: I am sure when you are forced to join the PTA you will do a fine job of being snide as all hell! You have a few years to dread it but I know your smart ass comments would make even me proud.

I'll have you know that I am a proud card carrying member of the PTA and I have only missed both, (or was it 3?) PTA meetings so far. This year. That started in September. Snags is in Kindergarten. You do the math.

I keep telling myself I'll go and then I can't.make.myself.actually.do.it.

Basket Bingo's their thing but it's NOT mine and I just can't stomach the thought of sitting in the school lunch room while they get all excited about that.

Besides, I ordered some of the wrapping paper. That should count for something, right?

We call it PTO around here and I'm on the board and I STILL have no freaking idea what is going on or what I'm supposed to be doing. I just sit there and nod and smile. Nod and smile. Gah!

mwaaaaaaaaahahahahahhahaaaaa... can i come to your pta meetings? they sound much more entertaining than mine are!

We call it PTO here, too... and after one meeting, two years ago, I knew I wouldn't be abck.

It was a mom's club, and dads need not show up because the moms don't want you on their turf.

Bitches.

CamiKaos said...

gunfighter: so it is "organization" instead of "association"?

One good thing I can say about our PTA is that there were at least 10 dada in the room. I was impressed and pleased with that.

Angel: Yes, you can, and everytime I say something particularly bitchy you can say "Yeah!" or "That's Right" or "You tell em Cami" for emphasis.

tcot: I wish sometimes that I could nod and smile more.

bellevelma: I am going to see if my neighbor and a couple of others will go out for drinks with me after... or maybe I will just ask them to pick up the agenda for me and meet me down at the bar when it's over. Clever no?
