yesterday I explored the fear and irritation of feeling like a drunken stumbling idiot right off the tilt a whirl (but clear headed).
Today lets talk about something else altogether... incredibly common things no one knows about...
OH WAIT. Those two items are the same thing. Well sort of. Yesterday after much swooning, much convincing K I can't play chase me chase me or hide and go seek or jump up and down on mommy I was finally able to talk to the medical assistant at my doctors office. She said we need you to come in right away... can you come in at today? Of course I can come in, I feel like some one put my head in a centrifuge...
So Mike hauled ass all the way home, did the dishes and then loaded us up in the car. By this time I was feeling a lot better (is that how it always works when you have to quickly go to the doctor?) but I was still dizzy enough that I needed to go. Traffic was good, we made good time, the office was quiet (until we got there) with the most comfortable couches a doctor's office has ever seen. I was admitted quickly (damn I wanted to lay on that couch for a while) and they took me straight to the scale.
Now I understand they need to weigh me each and every time I come in, I do, they must document the spread of my ass through the last 7 years of my life since I started seeing this doctor... but have you any idea what it is like to step on a wobbly scale when you feel like you are on a boat at sea?
Then off to the exam room. Question question blood pressure check question question check pulse take temperature wait for the doctor...
Doc asked a few questions. Looked in my ears. Said a few magic words (among them were this is not stroke or pre-stroke related) and then had me do some sit ups.... no I'm not joking. He said that since the vertigo was worse when I stand up or sit up I should do just that to help acclimate myself. It worked after a while but was kind of like some new brand of torture...
The diagnosis? Either I am getting over a cold or getting a cold and something is off in my inner ear... like a little rock rattling around in there throwing off my balance and making me feel like a seasick ballerina... The important thing to know... this happens all the time... it's incredibly common... did you know? because I sure didn't...

I had the same thing happen to me during the pregnancy of my 2nd child and then continue for months and months afterwards! After I stopped nursing, they finally treated it as vertigo and I had to go to a specialist who did put a warm water solution in my ears and then did a series of manipulations with my head (working that "crystal" rock thing back into place). It makes you very very dizzy and nauseous for a bit, but did it work! I was so amazed. I had forgotten what it was like to not feel dizzy all the time. Good luck with this and get the head jerking, water filled ear treatment if that is what they prescribe.
I think I need to see a new Dr. I have had this problem almost 2 months, and nothing has changed. I'm going to try the sit ups, and see the dr. again.
I am glad you are doing better. Keep me posted on your progress.
